Working With Us

We are always looking for strong, motivated students to work on our Bachelor or Master projects.

Multiple Positions in Robotics/Vision/Learning at U. Innsbruck

The research group in Intelligent and Interactive Systems (https://iis.uibk.ac.at/) has multiple openings at the doctoral and post-doctoral levels.

Our Opportunities

  • Research positions funded by several EU-FP7-ICT “Cognitive Systems, Interaction and Robotics” projects
  • Non-permanent university research staff positions with minor teaching requirements

For both types of positions, we seek highly-qualified postdoctoral researchers and talented doctoral students with interest and skills in at least one of the following areas:

  • Robotics:
    • grasping and manipulation using one or two dextrous hands
    • tactile sensing for grasping and manipulation
    • affordance learning: grasping, rolling, pushing, …
    • object placement: stacking, dropping, leaning, …

All activities involve probabilistic modeling, machine learning, and a strong component of human-robot interaction.

Postdoctoral researchers are expected to assume active roles in project leadership and supervision of junior researchers.

Salaries are internationally competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience.

Your Profile

Applicants for a postdoctoral position should have earned, or be about to earn, a doctoral degree in a relevant area, possess a strong publication record commensurate with experience, and have demonstrated strengths in areas related to the above research topics.

Applicants for a doctoral studentship should have earned, or be about to earn, an M.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant area, possess an excellent academic record, and have demonstrated prior achievements in any of the above areas.

All applicants should possess good written and oral communication skills in English, a strong mathematical background, and programming experience in C++ and other languages. Enthusiasm for leading-edge research, a team spirit and independent problem-solving skills are essential.

The University of Innsbruck, Austria

The history of the University of Innsbruck dates back to 1669. It offers a complete set of academic curricula and currently counts 28000 students. Founded in 2001, the Department of Computer Science is highly productive in diverse research domains, and is internationally very well connected.

Innsbruck is home to 35000 students who imprint a distinctive, international student atmosphere upon this lively city of 120000. Beautifully located in the Tyrolean Alps, on the Inn river and surrounded by summits of up to 2718m, Innsbruck offers outstanding opportunities and quality of life all around the year.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should send a letter of motivation, a curriculum vitae including URLs of theses and dissertations, scanned transcripts and diplomas, and contact information of at least two references in PDF to Justus.Piater@uibk.ac.at. In addition, post-doctoral applicants should include a list of publications and URLs of 2-3 selected publications.

Applications will be considered as they are received, until all positions are filled. Starting dates are flexible, but we strive to fill the positions with a Vision focus by October 1st, 2013, and the positions with a Robotics focus by March 1st, 2014.
